Backflow preventers are important. They are designed and installed to help protect your drinking water. If your backflow preventer is working correctly, it will keep contaminants and dangerous chemicals from entering the domestic water system. If you are connected to a city (municipal) water supply, your backflow preventer is not only protecting your own drinking water but also your neighbors as well! Testing your backflow preventer verifies that it is working correctly.
The 2015 Minnesota Plumbing Code requires that all testable backflow devices be tested upon installation and at least annually thereafter by a certified backflow assembly tester.
If you have an in-ground sprinkler system to water your lawn and/or landscaping and it is connected to your domestic water system, then you will have a backflow preventer installed. Typically, a Pressure Vacuum Breaker (PVB) type backflow preventer is installed outside your home/business where your irrigation system connects to your water supply.
If your backflow preventer is accessible from outside your house, you do not need to be home. We will complete the test or repairs and notify you when we are done.
